Why Mono
Everything a money app needs. Nothing it doesn't.
Balance that's always honest
Every expense, income and loan moves one number. Open the app, see exactly where you stand — no spreadsheets, no mental math.
Who owes what, settled
A clean two-way ledger per person. You gave, you took, one tap to settle up — and the totals always agree with your balance.
Synced to your account
Sign in once and your money follows you to any Mac. Everything is saved to your own account the moment you type it.
Works offline
A full local copy lives on your Mac. No internet? Keep adding entries — they upload themselves when you're back.
PIN locked
A 4-digit PIN guards the app on every machine. The PIN never leaves your device — it isn't even stored in the cloud.
Scheduled entries
Rent on the 1st, EMI on the 5th. Future-dated entries wait under Upcoming and count from the day they land.
Getting started
Running in under a minute.
Download and open
One 3.5 MB disk image. Drag Mono to Applications, open it — no setup wizard.
Create your account
Email and password, once per Mac. Then set a 4-digit PIN — that's your daily key.
Type your first expense
⌘N, amount, done. Charts, category insights and per-person ledgers fill in as you go.
Private by structure
Your money is yours to see. Only yours.
Account-scoped. Data lives under your account and the server rejects every other account's requests — enforced in the database rules, not just the app.
PIN on top. The 4-digit PIN is hashed and stored only on your Mac. It's never uploaded, so nobody — including the cloud — can read it.
Always exportable. One click exports everything as readable JSON. No lock-in, no proprietary format, no questions.
FAQ
Fair questions.
Is Mono free?
Yes. No subscription, no trial, no locked features.
Which Macs does it run on?
Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or newer) on macOS 12+. There's no Windows or Linux version, and no phone app — Mono is deliberately a desktop tool.
Where is my data stored?
Twice: in your own cloud account, and in a local database on your Mac so the app works offline. Deleting your data in Settings removes both.
Can anyone else see my money?
No. Data is tied to your account and the database rejects requests from any other account — that's enforced on the server, not just in the app. On top of that, Mono opens with a PIN that never leaves your Mac.
What happens if I get a new Mac?
Install Mono, sign in with the same email, and everything is there. The PIN is set fresh per machine.
Can I take my data out?
Always. Settings → Backup exports everything as one readable JSON file, and the same screen imports it back.
Know where you stand, every evening.
